The Château de Nalys
A jewel of the Maison GUIGAL’s crown in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the Château de Nalys enjoys an exceptional position opposite the historical village and its famous Papal Palace. Exercising rigorous standards, this historic property carefully cultivates the famous 13 grape varieties of the appellation on its exceptional terroirs. Marcel and Philippe GUIGAL are deeply involved in all aspects of winemaking at the Château de Nalys.
A new cellar for Château de Nalys
In 2017, the Guigal family purchased the Château de Nalys and by becoming owners of a property in Châteauneuf-du-Pape brought to life the dreams of three generations. The initial years were dedicated to bringing their expertise to the vineyards to get them in the best possible shape; an important step for this family of wine makers who have always attached huge importance to the vineyards as the key component in the making of fine wines. This first step accomplished, they then turned their attention to building a space worthy of the production of wines from the exceptional terroirs of Nalys.
In October 2022, the Guigal family presented themselves with a new challenge in collaboration with BAM – Because Architecture Matters – and organised an international architectural competition. The objective? To build an efficient working environment for the team whilst respecting the environment. The competition was a complete success; the specifications were downloaded 1,200 times, 165 candidacies were received, 20 agencies pre-selected and finally 5 candidates shortlisted before the final decision.
The results were revealed in July 2023 and Amélia TAVELLA and her talented team announced as the winners. Voted in unanimously by the jury, her superb project is based around the construction of an emblematic, timeless building which pays homage to nature.
